With nearly 400 years of outside influences, the Philippine cuisine is a fascinating blend of Malay, Spanish and Chinese cultures. To the Filipinos, food is important as it is an integral part of local art and culture as well as communal existence.

Buffet TableUnlike its surrounding Asian counterparts, that use hot chillies liberally in their dishes, the Philippine cuisine is often labelled as bland and mild. As with other Asian countries, rice is their staple food and will be served with most meals. Filipinos, tend to prefer fish and other seafood such as crabs, shrimps and shellfish as ingredients in many dishes.  In fact, seafood is often left uncooked, in a vinaigrette (kilawin) matrix, grilled (ihaw or inihaw) or stuffed with onions and wrapped in banana leaf. 出境旅游:www.king-trip.com

Coconut VendorCoconuts are used liberally in creating exotic Filipino dishes, so watch out those with a high cholesterol count. Cooking meat and vegetables using coconut milk create dishes called guinatan. These dishes originated from the Malay side of the Filipino cuisine. Apart from that, coconuts are also great for creating mouth-watering desserts like bibingka (puddings made of ground rice, sugar and coconut milk, baked in a clay oven, topped with fresh, salted duck eggs) and macapuno (thick dessert jam). 出境资讯网www.king-trip.com

Shopping

Shell LampsThe Philippines used to be an old Asian shopping emporium, going back to those days when its coastal towns sold pearls, tortoise shells, beeswax and trading vessels from as far as Arabia. Today, the attraction of shopping is centred more on handicrafts, woodcarving and shell-craft. Shopping in the cities of Philippines like Manila, Cebu, Baguio and Zamboanga can be quite a worthwhile experience and is bound to yield rewards. @#!@#!%.%&*)*&,

BasketBasketry Philippine baskets are exported and found in many fashion capitals of the world. The uniqueness of the Philippine baskets is represented through their varying regional designs which are made from a range of natural fibres like bamboo, rattan, nipa and other palms. Baskets can be found in tourist shops and in bazaar-like displays under the Quiapo Bridge, in the heart of Metro Manila. A visit to the Baguio market up in the mountain province is also worthwhile as this is the place where the antique designs of the mountain province converge with baskets from all over the Philippines.

MatsMats are a colourful combination of pandanas leaves woven together and are often used to line the walls of hotels. The mats found in Luzon are mostly natural-coloured while those from Leyte and Samar in the Visayas have more colourful, playful  designs. Those from Basilan and Sulu have dramatic geometric patterns. Tip: Cebu, Davao and Zamboanga offer a wide selection of these inexpensive treasures. 出境旅游网:www.king-trip.com

ShoesShoes and Bags Marikina, Rizal is the traditional bag and shoes capital of the country, producing fashionable footwear with matching bags to keep up with the increasing demands of fashion items. For stylish yet inexpensive shoes, the Philippines offers a better buy than most countries in the world. Tip: If you're planning to stay for a reasonable length of time, order custom-made shoes, they are well worth it. @#!@#!%.%&*)*&,

BarongEmbroidery Philippine embroidery has gained international recognition especially since its barong tagalog became popular. From the expensive brand type to the humbler polo barongs (short-sleeved) much favoured by casual tourists. There is the translucent pineapple fibre called piqa as material with the finest hand-embroidery or the cheaper ramie with machine embroidery. There is a wide selection of embroidered clothes for women such as the barong dress shaped like the barong tagalog but is longer in length, the embroidered kaftans and jelabas with scarves, bags, and handkerchiefs to match.

Coral NecklaceJewellery The two most common jewellery types to be found in the Philippines are shell and silver jewellery. Mother-of-pearl is probably the most popular, followed by coral and turtle shell. Note: Tourists are discouraged from buying items made from coral and turtle shells as this industry is slowly destroying the coral reefs and the surrounding habitats.
